What Do Roses Taste Like?

Make Rose Cordial
Like most cordials, rose cordial is a great alternative to alcoholic drinks and packs a punch of flavour with just a few drops. But how exactly do you make it? It’s fairly easy. You need to bring 1 litre of water and 1kg of sugar to the boil. Once boiling, remove from the heat and stir to dissolve the sugar. Add around 150g of strong rose petals, 1 sliced lemon and 30g citric acid. Stir it then leave, covered, for around 24hrs to infuse.

The cordial will keep in the fridge for around one month or in the freezer for around one year.
Make Rose Tea
If you want something a little more warming then rose tea will be perfect for you. It’s also really easy. Bring 500ml of water to the boil then stir in 2tbsp of dried rose petals. Turn the heat down to a low simmer and allow to infuse for around 5 minutes. The tea is ready when the petals have lost their colour.
Strain into mugs and enjoy. That’s all there is to it!

The most obvious benefit is the fact that they have a low-calorie count. It might not be a benefit, but it’s certainly encouraging to hear rose petals are low in calories. In fact, they are roughly 95% water.
The main benefit of roses is their vitamin C content. It’s not particularly high but it is present. If you’re looking for a higher concentration of vitamin C then consider eating the rose hips instead.

Place the rose petals into the oven and, after just 2 minutes, turn the heat off completely and leave the roses in the oven for several hours. Keep an eye on them to ensure they don’t burn or dry out too much. Once they have dried enough then you can place them into an airtight container and store in a cool, dry place.

Rose hips are actually the fruit of the rose plant. But that begs the question, can you actually eat rose hips. Well, yes you can! In the UK, the hips from the wild Dog Rose are the most desired with the best taste but any rose hip will be edible.
There is a chance that the seeds in the rose hips will contain cyanide which can be quite offputting. Having said, apple pips also contain small traces of cyanide but that won’t stop most people eating apples.
